Join Berkshire Hathaway Homestate Companies' Workers Compensation Division as a Senior Database Administrator in beautiful Walnut Creek, California! π’ This hybrid position calls for a dedicated professional to design, manage, and optimize SQL Server databases with a keen focus on Microsoft Azure cloud solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, deploy, and manage Microsoft SQL Server databases on-premises and in Azure (e.g., Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance) with secure and governed architectures. π
- Optimize SQL Server performance through query tuning, index management, and resource optimization within Azure environments.
- Implement and enforce data security measures, including encryption and role-based access control (RBAC). π
- Establish data governance frameworks to ensure quality and compliance.
- Develop backup, recovery, and high-availability strategies using Azure services. βοΈ
- Monitor and respond to security threats, ensuring compliance with governance policies.
- Troubleshoot complex database issues and collaborate with development teams to design secure schemas for Azure-hosted applications.
- Automate tasks using T-SQL, PowerShell, and Azure Automation.
- Conduct regular security assessments and audits to meet regulatory requirements like GDPR and HIPAA.
- Lead migrations from on-premises SQL Server instances to Azure cloud databases securely.
- Provide expertise on Azure data services and mentor junior DBAs on best practices.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (equivalent experience is acceptable).
- Preferred Certifications: Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate; Microsoft Certified: Data Management and Analytics; and/or Microsoft Certified: Security, Compliance, and Identity Fundamentals. π
- Strong proficiency in T-SQL, SQL Server administration, and secure database design.
- In-depth knowledge of data security practices and governance principles.
- Familiarity with Azure security and governance tools.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and collaboration skills.
Experience:
- Minimum of 7 years in database administration, with 3 years in a senior role focused on Microsoft SQL Server.
- Extensive experience with Microsoft Azure, including Azure SQL services and security features.
- Hands-on experience with high-availability solutions and Azure disaster recovery.
